Student Pastor

I'm so glad you're looking at our website and are interested in getting to know me. I hope I have an opportunity to meet you in person! Please, please, PLEASE reach out to me after you read my little bio… My name is Johnny Farr, and I've been married to the love of my life, Alisha, since 2008. We have two girls; Ellie and Emory and a Maltipoo dog named Pepper. I've been working in vocational ministry since 2004.

I have a great life! I am thankful for what God has given me! Growing up in my loving family was amazing. But, it required very little faith. I never once wanted for a meal. I've always had shelter, except for getting lost once on a camping trip. I've never really been persecuted for my faith. Made fun of… yes. Persecuted…no way! Somewhere along the way, growing up in this great life, I started believing the lie that my spiritual performance makes me more acceptable to God. I have relied on my own abilities rather than trusting God. As an Enneagram 3 (achiever, success-oriented, driven), believing this lie was very easy. I grew up having a little faith because I believed I could do everything in my own strength. Believing this lie vaccinated me from having a deeper and more strong faith.

God has used the ups and downs in my life to grow my faith (Hebrews 12). He is overcoming my faith vaccination to help me experience what true faith really feels like. I grew in faith as I worked my way through Bible College and watched him provide for my needs. I grew in faith as my wife, and I have worked through marriage challenges like my wife being a victim of an armed robbery. I grew in faith as I worked three part-time jobs for four years before finding a full-time job in ministry. I grow in faith as I prayerfully and very humbly parent my daughters.

God most deeply grows my faith as He reminds me that nothing I can do will make him love me any more or any less. I can trust God not only with various physical and emotional challenges, but I can trust him with my very soul. I can trust him with my identity. I can trust him that he made me special just like I am, and I don't have to live up to some self-inflicted standard that will make me more special or acceptable. God loves me deeply, just like I am. I can trust God that this is true. My identity is based on the love and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ.

Jesus once said, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" - John 10:10. Jesus does not want us to settle for a good life, gaining more and more material possessions and merely living a culturally Christian lifestyle. He wants us to have an abundant life. An abundant life is one that is full of faith. Galatians 2:20 speaks volumes, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Did you notice in this verse that the life we live now is by "faith?" Faith is key! Faith means we trust God. Faith leads to peace. Faith leads to joy. Faith leads to purpose! God has given me a purpose, and it is to partner with parents and other adults with the purpose of leading students to know and follow Jesus for a lifetime. This is my purpose and is why I absolutely love pastoring at First Colleyville.
