Missions to Alaska

May 12-19, 2018 - Big Lake Alaska

This trip we will be partnering with Big Lake Baptist Church, a small church in rural Alaska. They are putting up a metal building and will need 10+ people to help finish the inside: this could be walls, flooring, electrical, plumbing or painting. A sub team of 5 will go out to Dream Center Willow, a residential Christian discipleship program that treats women for chemical dependency. There will be lay leader training, such as discipleship and evangelism. Recreation for this trip will involve sea kayaking, mountain biking, glacier hikes, trekking in rainforest, four wheeling and visiting the kennel of an iconic Iditarod musher.

July 21-28, 2018 - Anchorage (Fairview Neighborhood)

This team will be partnering with Greater Friendship Baptist Church,(also known as 'The Ship'), it is the oldest African-American church in Alaska and is located in the second-most diverse neighborhood in the US. The Ship, once in decline has a great pastor in Michael Bunton, who took the helm three years ago and the church is growing. Pastor Bunton see outreach and evangelism as a focus,so this team will focus on evangelism training for members of Greater Friendship and working with them in the community. The team will be assisting the church with a big barbeque and three revival nights.(This trip is reserved for the Student Ministry leadership project.) *For registration details, contact Student Ministries.

July 28- Aug 4, 2018 - Wasilla, Alaska

This team will partner with Pioneer Baptist Church, a small church on the outskirts of Wasilla. Pioneer is in a very rural area where neighbors are generally not churchgoers and keep to themselves. Outreach ministry has been a challenge. In lieu of doing a traditional children's ministry such as VBS, this team will do Center Shot, an archery based day camp that has a lot of strong Bible curriculum rolled in. We will also do a couple of outreach events for the parents of the children who come to the camp. This team may also assist in putting up outdoor recreation equipment. The planned recreation for this mission trip is, sea kayaking, treks in the forest, visit animal sanctuary, disc golf at night, and lots of amazing photography opportunities!
